Olori Collection - 10 Queen Heads
A series of 10 female fabric bust sculptures portraying Yoruba Aso Oke, a strip woven cloth generally draped around the body or adorned as a head scarf (known as a gele) in full head form. These representations give tribute to the modern Yoruba woman in her serious role as a fashionista at ceremonial events. The transition from draped adornment to a decorative setting in head form is unusual and highly effective. It provides a modern accent on the ancient African heads and masks that are traditionally sculpted from wood or bronze.
